Cátedra UNESCO- Untref / AAMNBA (UNESCO-UNTREF-AAMNBA Proficiency in Cultural Tourism)

unesco

On March 29th, 2007, the Friends’ Association accepted a demanding challenge: the Cátedra UNESCO de Turismo Cultural (UNESCO Proficiency in Cultural Tourism). This is the first time that this kind of cultural activity is developed in the American continent. The Association works on this in coordination with the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (National University of Tres de Febrero).

Both institutions, with the collaboration of the UNESCO, took full responsibility for this project and started working together successfully on all the aspects related to the cultural tourism in the Argentine Republic and in Latin America, doing an extensive research work on the matter.

There are only three Cátedras de Turismo Cultural (Proficiency in Cultural Tourism) all over the world. Besides the Cátedra in Argentina, there is another one in France, in the University of Paris, Panthéon Sorbonne and, the Cátedra in the International Academy of Tourism, in the Russian Federation.

Considering the previous hard work of the Association to obtain the approval of this ambitious project, Koïchiro Matsuura, Head of the UNESCO, acknowledged the performance of Nelly Arrieta de Blaquier, Head of the Executive Commission of the AAMNBA, and thanked her for her commitment to this project.

The Agreement made by the AAMNBA and the UNTREF, by Aníbal Jozami, Head of the Untref, with the UNESCO, will have significant consequences for the Argentine Republic and for the rest of the region as well.

There are two main objectives to be achieved:

    > To give the cultural heritage a role to play in the life of the community, and protection by including it among the development projects;

    > To create awareness among those sectors of society involved in cultural tourism, an area that has become into one of the propellers of the global economy.
